From Nepal to Australia

My name is Aayush, and I am from Nepal. I studied Commercial Cookery for 1.5 years in Nepal, and now I'm studying a Bachelor of Business (specialising in Hospitality and Hotel Management) at TAFE NSW in Sydney. I’ve been able to study in both countries because of a partnership between my two education providers.

I chose to do the second part of my studies in Australia due to its amazing hospitality industry and quality education system. I also wanted to gain practical experience while studying and Australia has many options for hands-on learning.

Academic and personal growth

Studying in Australia has helped me improve my communication skills, time management, and most importantly - my confidence. I've also learned how to work in a diverse environment, which will be very useful for my career.

My course focuses on hospitality and hotel management, offering a strong balance between theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. I'm really enjoying the practical side of the course, which is helping me build the skills I’ll need for a future career in the hospitality industry.

Settling into Australia

The biggest challenge I had was adjusting to a new culture and lifestyle. At first, I mainly struggled with time differences and homesickness but, after making new friends, exploring Sydney and keeping in touch with my family, I started to adjust to my new lifestyle.

Career goals

It’s still early in my journey, but studying here in Australia has definitely helped me refine my career goals. I want to become a hotel manager, and this program is providing me with the required knowledge and skills needed for the role.

Advice for new students

My advice would be, stay open to new experiences, manage your time well and seek support when needed as it can get overwhelming when you first arrive in a new country.

When you first arrive, you might feel a bit lonely. So, it’s very important to reach out and ask for help when you need it. Making friends, joining student events and talking to classmates can make a huge difference.

There is also a wide range of support services, community groups, and teachers who are always ready to help. The teachers here are very supportive and welcoming. There is always someone who can support you!

Choosing to do the second part of my studies abroad was a very big step, but it's also been a great opportunity for learning and personal growth.
