An hour and a half drive north of Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast is home to stunning beaches, relaxed coastal vibes and the iconic Big Pineapple.
At 16 metres tall, this quirky landmark celebrates the region’s history of pineapple farming and has been a favourite among tourists for decades. While you’re there, you can explore the Wildlife HQ Zoo or take a heritage train ride through lush landscape nearby.
With the Sunshine Coast’s tropical greenery and world-class surf beaches, it’s also an ideal study destination for those who love nature and adventure.

About two and a half hours drive south of Brisbane (or an hour from the Gold Coast), you’ll find Ballina, home to the Big Prawn.
This giant prawn pays tribute to the region’s thriving seafood industry. If you’re exploring the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, the Big Prawn is the perfect stop for a selfie and some fresh seafood.
Nearby, you can also visit Byron Bay, one of Australia’s most famous beach towns. It’s known for its laid-back lifestyle, breathtaking coastal views, live music and fun nightlife.

If you’re heading south and sticking to the coastline, you’ll most likely drive past the Big Banana in Coffs Harbour. While you’re there check out some of the local beaches and the idyllic town of Sawtell which has cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping.

A little more inland, Tamworth is the country music capital of Australia. It’s home to the Big Golden Guitar which is a tribute to its world-famous Tamworth Country Music Festival. If you’re a country music fan, don’t miss this iconic festival that happens every January.
This town is a favourite among country music fans, offering live performances, cultural heritage, and a warm community atmosphere.

If your road trip takes you further south, stop by Phillip Island, home to the Big Wave. The wave celebrates Australia’s love of surfing and is a great photo opportunity!
Phillip Island is famous for its coastal scenery and unique wildlife. The island’s top attraction is the Penguin Parade, where you can watch cute penguins return to shore at sunset. You can also visit it’s stunning nature reserves, explore the Nobbies Boardwalk, or – for the more experienced surfers – catch some world-class surf at the local beaches.
Close by is the Mornington Peninsula. This region is also known for its coastal scenery, boutique wineries, delicious fresh food and hot springs. A good stop is the coastal town of Portsea where you can often catch some live music or have a meal with a view at the Portsea Hotel.
