The Australian Government has announced that applications for the 2025 Australia Awards Scholarships round are now open.  

The scholarships provide the opportunity for individuals from a selection of developing countries to undertake full-time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities.  

What are the Australia Awards Scholarships?   

The Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS) program is highly prestigious and competitive. It offers government-funded grants to students from a wide range of locations globally, to develop their skills, knowledge and leadership to drive change and contribute to the development of their own countries.  

The program continues the long-term commitment by the Australian Government to support partner countries through scholarships.  

What is included in the scholarship?  

The scholarships cover a range of expenses including:   

  • Full tuition fees. 
  • Return air travel. 
  • Establishment allowances - a contribution towards accommodation expenses, textbooks and study materials. 
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).   
  • Contribution to living expenses – a fortnightly contribution to basic living expenses paid at a rate determined by the department.  
  • A range of support services which may include language and academic support if needed.

The AAS program is open to individuals who show leadership skills, a strong commitment to development, and the potential to make a positive impact in their communities and countries.   

Award conditions  

If you are chosen for an Australia Awards Scholarship, you will need to sign a contract declaring that you will comply with the conditions of the scholarship. You will also be required to leave Australia for a minimum of two years after completing the scholarship.

  • Jeffrey Tarayao graduated with a Master of Sustainable Development from Australia. He has already made a difference to thousands of families across the Philippines through his highly awarded work bringing electricity to low-income communities.  
  • Yumna Hasany studied a Master of Public Policy and Governance degree at the Australian National University (ANU). She’s now an NGO program leader, helping women at risk, lecturing in her field, and participating in the US State Department-led Legislative Fellowship Program for India and Pakistan.  
  • Angella Ndaka studied Public Policy at the Australian National University (ANU).  In 2020, Angella was appointed as a senior policy expert by Kenya’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training system and works to empower young women and girls.
